Reserve Program



The mission of the Reserve is to provide additional manpower in special situations and to augment the Patrol division in the performance of law enforcement services in Jackson County. This could be as a call out of the entire Reserve component in the case of a hurricane, civil disorder, any natural catastrophe or to assist in controlling such civic events as parades. The Reserve deputies ride with regular deputies or patrol alone to assist in law enforcement duties through out the year. They not only increase the sheriff's manpower but also free regular deputies for more critical assignments. The reserves are an excellent way for you to serve your community and make a difference in the safety and well being of the citizens of Jackson County.

Minimum qualifications for Reserve applicants include:

  • State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification
  • At least 19 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Jackson County resident
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Florida State Drivers License.
  • No Felony Convictions.
  • A good driving record as determined by the Sheriff.
  • No misdemeanor convictions of concern to the Sheriff.
  • Be in good health, of good moral character, and in good physical condition.
  • No physical or mental defects or handicaps, which would prevent you from properly performing the duties of the position.
  • Satisfactory drug screen, physical, (at applicants expense)

As part of the application process you will be thoroughly investigated. You will be asked to fill out an application to aid us in this background investigation.

The reserves are a volunteer organization and receive no compensation from the county. Reserves serve strictly at the pleasure of the Sheriff and are subject to the rules and regulations of the department. Reserves are required to attend the regular monthly meetings and must perform at least 8 hours of duty, and 4 hours of training per month. The Sheriff's Office provides one uniform,to include trousers and shirt. Appropriate J.C.S.D collar brass and badge. A utility belt with holster, ammunition pouch, handcuff case and a service weapon with duty ammunition. Reserve Deputies provide their own shoes and coat.
